Squirrel Control, Squirrel Removal
The most common problem of squirrels is that they will enter the your attic through any existing holes or chew their way through weakened areas of roofs, vents, soffets (soffits) to gain access to a warm and safe environment. Once inside they can cause significant damage:
Damaged, torn and smashed insulation.
Feces and urine deposits.
Stains on ceilings from urine and fecal deposits.
Strong odors from droppings and saturated insulation.
Damage to electrical wiring creating a dangerous fire hazard.
Eastern Gray Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are medium sized tree squirrels. Their back is grizzled dark to pale gray and may be tinted with reddish coloration on their hips, feet and head. The tail is white to pale gray and as is their stomach. In the north, both their ears and soles of the feet grow heavy fur during winter. Basically, there is no difference between males and females with respect to size or coloration.
They have two breeding seasons per year. Most breeding occurs in December through February and May through June of every year. Females can have up to two litters per year, one from each breeding season with an average litter size ranging from 2 to 4 individuals. The winter squirrel litter is generally smaller than the summer squirrel litter. Both squirrel sexes remain reproductively active throughout their lives which is between 4-7 years. Squirrels often live in the city environment for up to 12 years.
The squirrel is an easily adaptable animal that quickly adjusts to whatever situation confronts them. The secret to their survival is how quickly they learn the ropes around the neighborhood. If there is no food available the squirrel will travel for miles to find it then set up their home nearby. A squirrels home which is referred to as a "drey", is usually built in trees that have den holes or are constructed from tree limbs and dried leaves. These are the big leaf Balls you see in the neighborhood trees around your home, but if no trees are available the squirrel will build it in the next best thing, YOUR ATTIC!
The squirrel is one of Centreville's most common Animal pests, and if you hear "noises" in your attic odds are you have an uninvited guest in the for of a squirrel. The most common noise complaints associated with squirrels in the attic is folks hearing lots of "scratching". This could be a sign that a female squirrel is preparing to have her young and this situation should be addressed immediately before the young are old enough to cause additional damage to your homes' wiring.
It is estimated that more than 40,000 incidents of house fires annually are caused by faulty or worn electrical wiring. As such, it is the leading cause of fire-related casualties, claiming about 500 lives with property losses estimated at over $500 million annually. Out of these 40,000 fires it's believed that 40% are caused by squirrels and rodents chewing on wiring. Don't delay, give us a call the minute you hear Mr. Squirrel in your attic.
Raccoon Control, Raccoon Removal
In the spring hundreds of female raccoons find their way into attics, crawl spaces, basements and chimneys in search of a safe place to have their young. The most usual time for liter births is late March into early April. Raccoons are very strong and can break louvers from gable vents, tear shingles off of a roof, dismantle faulty chimney caps and tear of chimney screens. Once inside, raccoons will create a nesting area and designate a spot to be their toilet. This can cause a terrible odor as it soaks into the insulation, sheet rock or ceiling tiles and can cause damage or stains.
Raccoons are destructive by nature and will tear apart insulation and wiring as well as rip shingles from the roof for no apparent reason. Raccoons are very dangerous animals to have living in your attic, chimney or any other place for a number of reasons.
Indications and Symptoms of a Raccoon Problem:
Loud thumping sounds in the attic at night.
Juvenile raccoons make loud chattering sounds.
Scratching, loud noises and chirping from your fireplace.
Large holes in the roof of your home.
A musty urine smell (raccoon Fecal).
Raccoon sightings on your property.
Running sounds in your attic during the day.
